If you are a Merced local or have lived here for any significant amount of time, then the name Launder Land is likely familiar to you.

This longstanding laundromat off of G Street, between Body Shak and Armstrong’s Pet World, has recently come under new ownership, and has completed a much-needed remodeling and upgrade. None other than next door neighbors and owners of the Body Shak — Pete and Karla Wainwright — are the excited (and exhausted) new owners.

The Wainwrights are Merced locals who have been serving smoothies, nutritional supplements, and tanning to the community for the last 17 years with Body Shak. They had always hoped to one day own a laundromat, and once the opportunity presented itself, the couple went after it with full force.

They invested a great deal of time and effort to completely overhaul the facility and “give it a full face-lift,” as they put it.

The laundromat, in complete contrast to its previous state, is almost entirely new. It boasts a fully upgraded array of machines, even adding in a variety of 60 lb. and 80 lb. washing machines. All of the flooring was redone, the bulkheads were replaced, and utility tables were replaced. They have even fixed all of the vending machines and set up a nice seating area along the windows.
